Recently I updated, an older pc with fedora 10 and on reboot it was freezing on gdm. No need for me to babble, here's the fix:
In your xorg.conf set the AccelMethod back to XAA.
Option "AccelMethod" "XAA"
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "intel"
VendorName "Intel Corporation"
BoardName "82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device"
